We had a busy week.  I changed around a few activities – trying to play catch up from the cold weather days off.

On Monday, we read the story The Mitten by Jan Brett.  The lost mitten became a warm spot for several animals.  The children had to cut out a mitten and the animals a see if they could fir them inside the mitten.  They also decorated a pair of mittens (some children had a matching pair and some did not . . .)

On Tuesday, we read another Jan Bret story, The Hat.  The animals in the story mistook winter clothes for hats! The class decorated hats using markers, cotton balls, and buttons.  The class also cut out winter clothes from paper and decorated cut outs of people.  They are hanging up on the classroom but will go home next week.

On Wednesday, we switched gears and focused on the letter “X”.  X is for Xray.  We read a story about a little girl who broke her arm and needed a Xray.  The children looked at real X-rays, traced each others hands and made X-rays, worked on a large scale skeleton puzzle and set up a pretend doctor’s office.  It was a very busy morning.

On Thursday, the class took turns playing a Xylophone.  They made a xylophone out of paper using a rainbow theme and paying attention to size order.  Mrs. Tiffany set up a sink or float center and the doctor’s office reopened. The treat bags were a gift form Reese who turns five on the 31st.  At the end of class we played several number and letter games.

Looking ahead:  The post office opens Monday!  We also talked about ground hog day and played with shadows- Will he see his shadow?
