This week we focused  on the letter “U”, writing letters and numbers as well as graphing.

On Monday, we went UNDER the sea.  The children heard an Eric Carle story about a hermit crab who traveled around the sea collecting things, painted a fish and experimented with sink and float activities.

On Tuesday, we went to the rain forest and read the story The Umbrella.  Carlos did not see any animals but the animals had an adventure with his UMBRELLA.   The children wrote the word umbrella and worked on their cutting.  We ended the day with BINGO.

On Wednesday, the U word was UNICORN.  We heard a unicorn story, did a rainbow beading activity, and colored a unicorn with scented markers.  The children also worked on a letter U work sheet.  We ended the day with Chapel.

On Thursday, we had a visit from a leprechaun who left the room a mess and scattered gold coins everywhere.  (Technically is was Pi day but we celebrated the number 14 instead.)  The class found 14 coins (and brought two home), wrote the number 14 and graphed St. Patrick’s Day items.  They also decorated lucky shamrocks.

Everyone is getting much better with letter and number recognition as well as writing their letters and numbers!

Looking ahead – Next week is “E” week – E for Egg and Easter.  We will have an Easter party in the classroom on the Wednesday after Spring Break.  I will send home a note on Monday about what the kids need to bring but if you want to get a jump on things – I will be asking each child to bring in 2 hard boiled egss and 5 plastic filled eggs.  The idea list for the plastic eggs will come home Monday.

Have a great weekend.
