The focus of the week was the letter “N” and the number 9 as well as name writing.  The class as a whole is improving dramatically on name and letter writing.  We used dry erase boards everyday this week to practice writing both names and letters.

The theme for the week was the 5 senses.

On Monday, we read the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?  We smelled coffee, vanilla, and cinnamon as well as felt cotton that was hidden in a pillow case.  The children decorated their name using scented markers and played with a pretend bakery.

On Tuesday, we read the story Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?  The class made noodle necklaces and practiced writing the letter”N”.  We also held a vote for which candy the class liked better.  Everyone got a package of skittles to take home (they won over gummy bears).

On Wednesday, we read the story The Bear Snores On.  The class practiced making patterns as well as cutting out a bear face and writing the word Bear.  This will end up in their journals.  For the five senses we looked at the color of skittles, heard them shake, smelled them, felt how smooth they were and finally tried eating them.

On Thursday, we ended the week gluing noodles on a letter N and writing the number 9.  Due tho the very nice weather we ended the day on the playground.

Looking ahead,  we will start talking about Thanksgiving and eating healthy next week.
