Happy Halloween!!

On Monday, everyone had a great time at the Halloween party.  The kids all wore fantastic costumes!

On Tuesday,  the letter “Z” was introduced.  The class built a zoo out of blocks and construction paper, made zoo masks and practiced writing the letter “Z”.  I read the story Good Night Gorilla in circle.  It is a fun book with very few words so the class help me narrate the story.

On Wednesday, we continued the zoo theme by doing zoo math.  The children also had a chance to go to the free painting center.  We talked about being careful with the paint so the colors stayed nice for the next person.  Their art came home today and I think you will all be impressed with the results.

On Thursday, we ended the week with number 8 writing and making black cats (I am saving them for the end of the year portfolio).  We used circle to go over trick-or-treat etiquette.

We focused on patterns this week – which we be a math theme for the next two months as well as counting and recognizing numbers.

Looking ahead:  Now that the class is familiar with the routine and what is expected from them, my focus for the next 2 months will be on classroom behavior  – taking turns, sharing, making good choices without adult direction.  We will also be working on name writing/word writing.  Everyone can write their name NOW we will spend time on form.  Making the letters correctly.  I sent home a letter sheet early in the year but if anyone would like a second copy please ask.

November and December are busy months full of emotions and anticipation.  The children will be doing many projects that will become holiday gifts so I will be giving limited information about the crafts we are working on 🙂
