Week 2!

This week is fun; it is our All About Me week. We spend all week learning about each other and our homes. We learn that we are all different and being different makes you special!

Monday, for centers, the class made their own ” snapshot of home” crafts. They drew anyone that lives in their house with them. Brothers, sisters, even dogs or cats. They also completed their first monthly name writing and coloring page. At the end of the school year, each of you will get a binder of work they completed throughout the year showcasing all of their progress. Name writing/ color/ drawings is one of those sections in the binders. Our fine motor center was using rubber noodles and geoboards. They had to press the noodles into the board to create shapes, letters, or their own design. Another way we learned about ourselves and each other was to decorate a bubble letter that our names start with. Kids could choose to color their letters, put stickers on their letters, or a combo of both.  During our group activity time, everyone got to share their All About Me papers they created at home.

Continuing our All About Me theme, Tuesday we learned about our 5 senses. We listened to a story by Pete the Cat that helped explain to the class what each of our sense are. After our book, and a little group conversation, the kids sorted items by which sense they use for each thing. For example, a cheeseburger is your taste sense, a blanket is your sense of touch, and a rainbow is your sense of sight. I was very impressed how quickly they picked up that activity. We also, did a name crayon craft. They got to pick out whatever color they wanted to color their crayon paper, then cut out the pieces on their own.  I can already see improvement with the cutting skills!!!

Wednesday was full of more learning about ourselves and each other. I had a cool name page, that showcased their name writing, their counting skills, and touched on letter sounds. Each kiddo wrote their name, then had to count how many letters were in their names. Once they wrote that number down, they got to think of something that started with the first letter of their name. After we came up with that item, they drew that picture on the bottom of the sheet. Another center was what we call mirror selfies. The class had to use a mirror to draw a likeness of their face. We talked about how no one would have purple hair, or red eyes, and to use the mirror to find the color crayons that are the closest to what they see in the mirror. Then we talked about each of us are different and that’s what makes each and every one of us so special. Our group activity was “who stole the cookie from the cookie jar” I had printed out cookies with each childs name on it. I put them all in a jar and I started off saying ” who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?” Then I pulled out a cookie and whosever name was on it had to identify their name and say they stole the cookie from the cookie jar. Then after we sang our song again, that kiddo got to pull out the next name. I want to say they begged me to play this at least 4 times before we moved onto our next task. So safe to say, they enjoyed that!

Apple Orchard Field trip Thursday! I had so much fun with my group and I hope you all did too. I got to see quite a few of you at the very least in passing and I’m glad you all could make it. This field trip is leading us into our next weeks theme with is A is for Apple and Astronauts.

Side note- just a reminder that this coming up week, we will be apple tasting. I don’t have any allergies for this in my paperwork, but if there is an issue with your kiddo trying apples, please let me know.
