It was a perfect first week of school!  The children fell into the routine without any problems.

On Tuesday, I read a story about Pete the Cat and his new school shoes.  The kids all came home with a Pete the Cat hats and hopefully a smile.  We went over the daily routine, made Pete the Cat hand prints and took some great first day pictures.

On Wednesday, the children water color painted shoes after hearing the story about Pete’s white shoes.  They also did a favorite color work sheet and played with play dough.  We went out to the playground and everyone got a treat from the treasure box.

On Thursday, I read the story My Many Colored Days.  We discussed colors that we like and don’t like in circle.  We also talked about AB patterns in circle.  Everyone made a red and white necklace.  The children were encouraged but not forced to make a necklace with a pattern.  (We will be beading every month.)

On Friday,  The children got a little extra play time before starting centers.  They decorated their water color shoes with glitter and drew self portraits – both will be going in their end of the year portfolios.  The day ended with outside time and treasure box.

All the children worked on writing and recognizing their names everyday.  They should use a capital letter followed by lowercase to write their names.

Have a great weekend.
